The latest “Sesame Street” Muppets to be featured on Google.com this week are the famous duo, Bert and Ernie.

Search engine Google is honoring “Sesame Street’s” 40^th anniversary with a series of special doodles on its logo.  Big Bird was featured on Wednesday, and Cookie Monster was featured on Thursday.

“Sesame Street” will celebrate its big anniversary on November 10, 2009.  To see highlights of the upcoming 40^th season, click here.

The “Sesame Street” Muppets have also made several TV appearances this week, including “Today” on NBC Friday morning.

Actor Jim Carrey’s bizarre new web site is getting a lot of attention.

The site, JimCarrey.com, allows fans to “Explore the eccentric, psychedelic corners of Jim Carrey’s mind on his official site. Discover archived appearances and movie trailers, behind the scenes clips, family photos and even notes from Jim himself!”  Cinematical.com found the meta-description in the web site’s source code.

The site itself is hard to navigate, but the movie-inspired pictures are very intriguing.  Once fans do find their way around the site, they’ll discover such highlights as a bird with Carrey’s head, which leads to his Twitter account; a man who pops up and snaps a photo, which leads to photos of Carrey’s life; and a trailer for Carrey’s new movie, “A Christmas Carol.”

Today, the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) supported the health care reform plan which includes the public option.

“Millions of Americans will be able to reestablish control over their lives,” AARP CEO Barry Rand said, in a broadcasted news conference.

The AARP organization has 40 million members, and their support is something that President Obama welcomed.

“They (AARP) would not be supporting it if they really believed it would lead to government bureaucracy making decisions that are best left to doctors,” Obama said.

Rand said that the House plan, “protects the right of people to see the doctor of their choice” and it “aggressively cracks down on waste, fraud and abuse in the Medicare system.”

“The bill focuses on quality of care and not the quantity of tests being ordered,” Rand added.

The American Medical Association (AMA) also supports the health care reform plan.

The legislation “isn’t perfect” but is “consistent with our goals to warrant our support to keep the process moving,” AMA President James Rohack said.

In his speech today, Rand from the AATP was very critical of the insurance industry, its rising rates, and denial of insurance for those with pre-existing conditions.

“We cannot continue to let insurers price older Americans out of the market, just as we cannot stand idle while millions of Americans are forced to choose between their groceries and their prescriptions,” Rand said.

The Rihanna interview with Diane Sawyer is anticipated. The Rihanna Diane Sawyer interview will discuss Rihanna’s trials and tribulations. A 5 minute clip of the Rihanna interview with Diane Sawyer was aired on Good Morning America, and the entire Rihanna/Diane Sawyer interview will air tomorrow night on 20/20.

In the 5 minute clip, we see Rihanna get tear-y eyed speaking about her relationship with Chris Brown.  In the weeks after the time when he assaulted her, Rihanna forgave Chris Brown and took her back.  According to the interview aired on Good Morning America, Rihanna tells Diane Sawyer that she eventually let Chris go when she realized that she was not setting a good example for her fans by taking him back.  She feared that her actions and selfish desire for love could end up getting young women killed.

It’s great to see a prominent figure such as Rihanna speak out about a topic like domestic violence.  The Rihanna interview with Diane Sawyer will be something that no young woman facing an abusive relationship should miss.

Cookie Monster turns Veggie Monster? Sounds like a Monster Mix-up. Cookie Monster and Veggie Monster are the center of a viral internet search today as Cookie Monster recently celebrated his 40^th birthday.

Nutrition has changed since Cookie Monster graced American TV screens some 40 years ago.  Now, parents try to keep their children away from refined sugars and starches made popular in part by cartoon-like characters such as Cookie Monster.

Still yet, a Cookie Monster as Veggie Monster sounds more like a bad Halloween costume than a smart well-thought out switch.  There were some rumors that the producers of Sesame Street were going to turn the crumb-gobbling monster into a veggie-gobbling monster to promote healthy living.

I am sorry, but a blue monster gobbling up bits of carrots churns my stomach.  Crumbling cookies are funny. Shredded carrots and bits of corn are not.

Luckily, as Gather.com points out the rumors about Cookie Monster turning in to Veggie Monster are FALSE.  American children will be able to watch their favorite blue monster gobble up chocolate chip cookies for many years to come.

The Cookie Monster/Veggie Monster discussion leads me to wonder if Cookie Monster really does play a role in the way children see nutrition.  If you think about it, Cookie Monster isn’t really eating the cookies – he’s crumbling them up and getting them everywhere. This action is more for laughs than to program children to eat massive amounts of chocolate chip cookies.

Parents must play a crucial role in the development of healthy living habits for their children.  Children for the most part learn by example.  Therefore, healthy parents can for the most part raise healthy children.  If you are a parent that sits on the couch eating Chips-A-Hoy Cookies straight from the box, and are worried about your child as they are constantly eating cookies too – they are probably learning their habit from you and not the furry monster they watch on TV.

Cookie Monster is also a great way to teach your child about entertainment.  Sometimes people – or characters – do things to entertain us.  Cookie Monster isn’t eating cookies because it’s super healthy and what you should do – he’s eating, or rather, crumbling them to make kids laugh.

Cookie Monster is my hands-down favorite Sesame Street character. Although Sesame Street toned down the cookie-gobbling and added songs such as “A Cookie is Sometimes a Food” he plays a big role on Sesame Street. Veggie Monster just wouldn’t cut it.

Tropical Storm Ida formed today. Tropical Storm Ida formed in the Caribbean. Could Tropical Storm Ida become Hurricane Ida? Only time will tell.

According to the Associated Press, Tropical Storm Ida is causing Hurricane Watches to pop up around Nicaragua.   Tropical Storm Ida is up to 65 mph winds, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

Tropical Storm Ida could bring major flooding and major landslides wherever she makes landfall.  Nicaraguan officials are already taking precautions and making shelters.

Tropical Storm Ida will likely cause evacuations in the coastal city of Bluefields and the towns of Laguna de Perlas, Cruz de Rio Grando and Kukra Hills.

Tropical Storms need to be watched quickly.  As a tropical storm makes its way across warm water, the storm will strengthen.  As a tropical storm strengthens, it could turn in to a full-blown hurricane.

Whether or not Tropical Storm Ida will turn in to Hurricane Ida has yet to be seen.  We can only cross our fingers and hope for the best. However, those that live in the path of the storm should evacuate if encouraged by local authorites.  As mentioned before, Tropical Storm Ida will bring forth a lot of flooding and potential landslides.

The Sandra Bullock custody battle is sad. The Sandra Bullock custody battle is hard. Sandra Bullock and husband Jesse James are fighting for custody of Jesse James’s daughter.  Jesse James’s baby momma is a porn star that just got out of jail. She was in jail because she didn’t pay her taxes.

 The porn star that Sandra Bullock and Jesse James are up against is Janine Lindemulder. Janine and Jesse have a 5 year old daughter, and Sandra took the little girl under her wing while her mom was in jail.

 Allegations have been made that Sandra Bullock’s desire for custody of the child stems from her own inability to have children. Sandra Bullock denies these claims, and says that she chose her career over having children. Sandra Bullock is concerned about the well being of her husband’s 5 year old daughter, and says the living environment is not stable with Janine.

The full text of Sandra’s letter to the courts indicates that she and Jesse James would love to have a child of their own, but choose not to because it is not in the daughter’s best interest. Furthermore, before Jesse’s daughter came to live with them, she had never been to a playground and had never been around children her own age.

Jesse James also has an ex-wife that co-parents with Jesse and Sandra. Sandra describes their relationship as amicable.

Jesse James wrote a letter to the court as well, indicating that he gave Janine $182,000 to pay her taxes upon their divorce. She spent the money on drugs, and then landed in jail for non-payment of taxes.

The Sandra Bullock custody battle just goes to show you that those out in Hollywood have the same problems we all do. Custody battles don’t get easier just because you are famous – they usually get harder.
