TV legend Regis Philbin announced on Tuesday morning that he is retiring from “Live With Regis and Kelly,” which has left fans wondering … who will replace him?
“I don’t want to alarm anybody,” he said during Tuesday’s broadcast, “This will be my last year on the show.”
Philbin, 77, has hosted the program for 28 years, with Kelly Ripa as his most recent co-host.
Philbin said he would end his run on the talk show sometime in the summer or fall. He reassured the audience and viewers at home that, “We’ll have a lot of fun between now and then.”
Technically, nobody can “replace” the TV legend as he has been the host for years. But when the show continues without him, someone else will join Kelly Ripa at the desk as her co-host. Who do you think would make a good co-host with Kelly?
“Live With Kelly & ?”
Personally, I think a few contenders include some great fill-ins who have had great chemistry over the years guest-hosting with Kelly when Regis was on vacation:
- “Survivor” host Jeff Probst: Jeff and Kelly have great chemistry and Jeff would be just as adventurous as Kelly when it comes to on-location segments. However, Jeff is still with “Survivor” and would also probably have a hard time sitting still at a New York desk.
- Mark Consuelos, actor and Kelly Ripa’s husband: Mark and Kelly obviously have great chemistry since they are married, but Mark also brings a great presence to the show. He’s easy on the eyes for the ladies, and definitely chimes in with his male point of view against Kelly whenever he can.
- Anderson Cooper of CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360”:Â Anderson has his own show on CNN, so I doubt he would leave that gig. However, Kelly’s crush on him is hilarious and brings some great on-screen chemistry.
