Nodar Kumaritashvili Crash Video an Olympic Luging Tragedy

Nodar Kumaritashvili’s crash video is still a viral video.  The crash took place on the afternoon before the opening ceremonies at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic games.  Kumaritashvili was making a trial run down the Whistler track in Vancouver when he lost control of his sled and flew into a metal pole at speeds in excess of 80 mph.

After the crash, everyone wanted to see footage of where the luger went wrong.  After all, the Olympics were starting and many were fearful that lugers from their own country could meet the same fate.

Adjustments were made to the track to lower the starting point to slow lugers down.  In addition, the metal poles were padded and the retaining wall built up around the area where Nodar had his accident.

Other lugers weren’t so happy – some criticized the changes, saying that they made the track into a “child’s track.” Despite the fact, there are many that are very happy that the changes were made.
