The stars celebrated at the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night, but they also took the time to show their support for the victims of the recent earthquake in Haiti.
Special ribbons adorned the evening gowns and tuxedos of celebrities, in place as a remembrance of the tragedy in Haiti.Â
“It does feel strange to dress up and play fantasy, but I’m glad we are talking about it,” said Kyra Sedgwick to CNN on the red carpet.Â
Her husband, actor Kevin Bacon, used his red carpet interview with CNN to encourage fans to make donations, CNN reported.
Host Ricky Gervais had said lightheartedly at the beginning of the NBC telecast that “someone much more important than me†would address the Haiti tragedy. Actresses Nicole Kidman and Maggie Gyllenhaal were among several celebrities on hand to encourage viewers to make a donation at NBC.com.
“I just want to say on a serious note a lot of people are wearing ribbons tonight in support of the people of Haiti, and you can go to NBC.com to make your personal contribution,” said Kidman.
Actress Olivia Wilde said that her Golden Globe dress and several others would be auctioned off with 100 percent of the money going to a local program in Haiti. Wilde has reportedly been involved with the support of an orphanage and three schools in Haiti.
Several references were made throughout the evening to actor George Clooney, of the heavily nominated film “Up in the Air,†who is busy organizing a telethon, “Hope for Haiti,†set to air on Friday. For more on the telethon, click here.
