Lovie Smith to Take Tennessee Head Coach Job?

Lovie Smith to take Tennessee head coach job? The vacancy at the University of Tennessee may be filled by Lovie Smith, coach of the Chicago Bears.  This won’t be the first time that Tennessee has shown interest in Lovie Smith but many are keeping their fingers crossed that this time, he will take them up on the offer.

Still yet, there’s no official word that Lovie Smith will take the job. There are even those that estimate that the coach of the Bears won’t take the position – even if offered.

Jeff Fisher of the NFL Gridiron states in his blog post “Five Predictable Outcomes from Bears Coach Lovie Smith’s Coaching Staff Makeover“  “Why would a premier program like UT settle for a socially-challenged, mediocre head coach whose recent 3-year record is 2 games below .500?”

On the other hand, Mike Florio from ProFootballTalk.comstated in his blog that “With Smith’s ability to stick around for 2011 riding on the performance of quarterback Jay Cutler and mounting uncertainty regarding a work stoppage after next season, heading to Knoxville makes plenty of sense.” Meaning, the coach’s job is on the line and taking the Tennessee Coaching job would be a good idea for Lovie.

Still yet, Tennessee fans are curious to see what will happen now that their head coach position is open – again.  Will Lovie Smith take the Tennessee head coaching job? Only time will tell.  In the meantime, leave your thoughts about Lovie Smith and the University of Tennessee below.

Yes all we need is Thurston Howell III wife coaching at UT. Give me a break. If Mike Hamilton has a brain he will choose Kippy Brown. That is the perfect fit.

GO BIG!! Get a big name like Bama did if you want to win championships like the big boys do….. Lifelong Vols fan…….and wouldn’t it be great to see a Les Miles, Saban or Spurrier for UT?!!!

Lovie is no longer loved by fans in Chicago. A fresh start in TN might be good for him. He is still a good defensive coach who believes in running the ball, its just some of his scheme is no longer a match for the Bears. I hope it works out.

And what was Saban’s record at Miami??

Several unsuccessful coaches in the NFK were/are successful at the collegiate level.

Ever heard of Pete Carroll? Dave Wannstedt (sort of)? Ericcson? Butch Davis? Spurrier was success at Flordia and how did he do in the NFL? Shoot, you could even though Ron Turner’s name in there. Etc,etc…

Lovie would be great at Tennessee and I’ll be rooting for him if he takes the job.
