Reports: Suicide Attempt Led To Artie Lange’s Hospitalization

Comedian Artie Lange’s hospitalization has been revealed as stab wounds from an apparent suicide attempt, according to reports.

Artie Lange

Lange, 42, a sidekick to radio veteran Howard Stern, stabbed himself nine times, the New York Post reported.  Lange’s mother found him in his Hoboken apartment on Saturday morning and called 911, a law-enforcement source told the paper.

Surgeons managed to save Lange, despite heavy bleeding, according to the reports.

Stern has spoken out about the incident and expressed his concerns about the media reports.

“I work with Artie, I love Artie. Everyone has their demons, including myself, but he’s wrestling with some serious stuff. When I heard the news it was too much to bear,” said Stern, according to CBS News.

Stern said on Monday’s Sirius-XM radio show that Lange is not leaving the program and called him “a tremendous contributor.”  Lange has been with Stern since 2001, according to the show’s Web site.

Lange’s representatives confirmed earlier this week that the comedian was hospitalized.
