‘Avatar’ Passes $1 Billion At Worldwide Box Office

The James Cameron movie “Avatar” passed $1 billion in sales at the worldwide box office after three weekends in release, making it the fourth-biggest movie of all time, according to data released on Sunday.


The 3-D sci-fi epic earned $1.02 billion, powered by sales of $202 million during the New Year holiday weekend, distributor 20th Century Fox said.

The other three movies that still rank higher than “Avatar” are: “Titanic,” which was also by Cameron, at $1.8 billion; “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” at $1.12 billion, and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” at $1.07 billion.

“Avatar” stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, and Giovanni Ribisi.  For more about the film, click here.
