The Taj Mahal, one of the finest examples of Mughal architecture is a beautiful blend of Persian, Indian and Islamic style of architecture. This exquisite poetry in marble has been the paradigm of love, since this monument came into being. But recent developments have cast an evil shadow on this “jewel of Muslim art in Indiaâ€. Intelligence reports obtained, after a US based Terrorist of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, Daniel Coleman Headley, was recently nabbed, reveal that he had visited Agra and had done a recce of all the important installations in the city, including the Taj Mahal.
Around 2 to 4 million tourists come to visit the Taj every year during the months of October, November and February, which are relatively pleasant for sight seeing in India. As this is the time which draws the maximum number of tourists, security has been beefed up in the city.
Special security arrangements have been made to provide maximum security to all those visiting Taj. Brijbhushan Singh the deputy inspector of police, Agra, has informed that special watchtowers with close-circuit televisions have been erected to keep constant vigilance on the Taj. The paramilitary Central Industrial Security Force will keep a tight vigil over and around Taj from 8 watchtowers built around it.
Besides security arrangements, special facilities have also been arranged for them.
The UNI has reported that all the tourists keen on visiting the Taj can buy entry tickets to the Taj from any monumental side, throughout India. This facility shall be available from the 16th of November after a formal inauguration by Mr.Manmohan Singh, the Prime Minister of India. This facility which will only be provided to the foreign tourists initially will be later extended to the local tourists also.
Now that economy has recovered after a phase of Regression, an upsurge of tourists is expected in the city.
