The day for the sixth ODI has arrived. India is now poised in a do or die situation, and from here there is no margin for error on the Indian side.
With the series poised 2-3 in Australia’s favour, Dhoni and his men have an uphill task ahead of them. Any lapse on their part, and the series will be clinched by the visitors.
The only option India has is to win both the matches.
Being a day match, the toss is very important as the morning due will be the deciding factor. While Hussey feels it is a “good toss to lose†Dhoni is still undecided.
Australia is high on spirits as it could clinch the last two matches inspite of having a depleted team and a second string bowling attack.
As for the pressure on the Indian side, the Indian skipper has a different opinion,
“There is pressure in every game. At this level, there will always be pressure,” he says.
Lack of consistency in batting and a very shoddy fielding, were the main culprits that drifted the team away from victory in the 4th and 5th ODI.
Dhoni agreed that fielding was one area where they really needed to concentrate as it played a very vital role in winning close matches. With Robin Singh sacked, fielding is one area which is of grave concern that needs to be tackled seriously.
As for the bowlers on the Indian side, Harbhajan Singh was the only silver lining that shone, while the trio Ashish Nehra, Praveen Kumar and Munaf Patel were unimpressive.
Ravindra Jadeja, the left-arm spinner who was successful in the previous matches also failed to perform.
For the batting side, Sachin Tendulkar’s spectacular knock, of 141 in 175 balls could not save the match owing to the incapacity of the tailenders to perform.
As of now all eyes are set on The Nehru Stadium. This match at Guwahati and the next have to be won by Team India not only to win the series but also to be at no 1.
Soon after they are finished with these series against Australia there is another series coming up with Sri Lanka. So clinching this series becomes all the more important for them to keep the spirit and the memento going.
Security has been beefed up in Guwahati with a three tier security level in the city.
All Indians are fingers-crossed.
All the Best India!
