Indian software professional Arpana Jinaga, working with the EMC Corporation in Seattle, was “strangulated to death” in her apartment in the wee hours of Nov 1.
Redmond Police Tuesday registered a case of homicide and has launched a massive manhunt to nab the assailant. Redmond is a suburb of Seattle where Arpana, 24, a native of Hyderabad, lived alone in an apartment.
James Sosik, the investigator at the King County Medical Examination Office, who conducted the autopsy, told IANS that Arpana was strangulated to death in her apartment at about 3-30 a.m. on November 1.
Though the news report says a massive manhunt, I would be extremely skeptical of the claims. This comments are usually made to assuage the kith and kin. Its very hard to find the killers and I have not come across the previous incident perps being caught.
Preliminary investigations corroborate autopsy report. City police spokesperson Jim Bove said front door of Arpana’s apartment on Redmond Woodinville was forced open shattering the door jam.
Its not the first time Indian visitors to US, whether students or workers, have been killed so brutally. But this is simply a reflection of the kind of crime that exists in their society. There have been muggings and killings in the past as well but this is the first time I am hearing about an Indian girl being killed.

Quite an unfortunate incident but this in no way reflects to the overall worsening crime situation in the country.
Why are the Indian associations not coming together and putting up a representation to the US govt? There seems to a pattern and no one seems to be concerned.
