SC Mother Admits to Drowning, Suffocating Children

Shaquan Duley is the South Carolina mother who confesses to suffocating her children. Duley originally told authorities that she lost control of her car near a ramp where the submerged Chrysler was found, children inside.

The case bears similarities to the 1994 Susan Smith case, which also happened in South Carolina.  Smith drove a car into a lake with her children inside. The death penalty was sought in the case, although she did not receive that sentence. She’s currently serving 30 years to life on two counts of murder.

Both a 1 and 2 year old boy was killed in the accident, and Shaquan has one surviving 5 year old daughter, who was with her grandmother at the time of the accident.

Authorities are suspicious at this time, and the only charge against Shaquan initially was leaving the scene of an accident. However, murder charges are also being sought as well.

This is a very sad story, and one with a tragic ending. It’s always horrifying when a child perishes at the hand of his or her parent, the person that is supposed to be there to protect them.
