Not to be outdone by Allure magazine’s annual nude edition, Harper’s Bazaar also glorified the naked female form in their May issue with Kim Kardashian and Joy Bryant.  Photographer Amanda de Cadenet presented the ‘naked truth’ in a pictorial interview of celebrity women in an effort to help women accept their bodies. Along with Kim Kardashian and Joy Bryant, de Cadenet posed naked as well. The difference between these pictures and photo spreads done for other magazines? No photoshopping. No airbrushing. Just naked women.
“This is really about women and girls accepting their bodies,” Amanda de Cadenet explained in Bazaar. “If we’re more comfortable with our naked bodies, we might be more comfortable with our clothed selves.” Â
One might think that Kim Kardashian would not be among those uncomfortable with their body image, but one would be wrong. Kim Kardashian, despite the “leaked” sex tape that first launched her to notoriety and fame and her now famous I’m-not-going-to-get-totally naked Playboy spread (where she did indeed pose totally naked for photos for the men’s magazine), has struggled with her body image — that same body that now attracts millions of viewers and fans with the mere mention of her name — most of her life.
She told Harper’s Bazaar that growing up in California was tough. Being short, brunette, and curvy among the tall, blonde California girls and the image they presented was tough. But she looked up to Sophia Loren and Raquel Welch and was happy when Jennifer Lopez and Salma Hayek became celebrities.Â
Developing quickly didn’t help. “I was wearing a C cup by the time I was 11. I would go to bed and pray, ‘Please, Lord, don’t let my boobs grow any bigger,'” the 29-year-old recalls. “I hated what was happening.”
But she is at peace with herself now. She notes that she still has problems with weight and cellulite but thinks that embracing it “empowers” her. “I think the message is embrace your curves and who you are. I feel proud if young girls look up to me and say, ‘I’m curvy, and I’m proud of it now.'”
The girl who used to shed tears over her body now generates millions of dollars a year because of that body. From her family reality show to guest appearances on shows like “CSI: New York,” Kim Kardashian is a popular draw. Rarely a day goes by without some celebrity gossip magazine writing something about her or publishing pictures of her (which are usually natural, curvy pictures as well) in an effort to provide the public with the ‘naked truth.’Â
If you can handle the ‘naked truth,’ Kim Kardashian, Joy Bryant and Amanda de Cadenet are willing to expose it in the May issue of Harper’s Bazaar. Actress Gwyneth Paltrow graces the cover (albeit fully clothed).
