Boy Band Heaven: New Kids On The Block, Backstreet Boys Rock AMAs As NKOTBSB

“All you people, can’t you see? Can’t you see? NKOTBSB!”

I’m in boy band heaven! New Kids on the Block (NKOTB) and the Backstreet Boys (BSB), known together for their new tour as NKOTBSB, were “Larger Than Life” on the American Music Awards (AMAs) Sunday night in Los Angeles, proving they have “The Right Stuff” to perform together.

The two boy bands, well now men, have reunited their separate groups (BSB minus Kevin Richardson) in the past few years after a long hiatus (NKOTB were big in the late 1980s/early 1990s, with about a 15-year hiatus; BSB were big in the late 1990s/early 2000s with about a three-year hiatus).  Now, they are combining forces for the ultimate boy-band performance.

Fans got a sneak peek at the upcoming NKOTBSB tour with a performance at the AMAs on Sunday.  As the last act of the night, Donnie Wahlberg, Jordan Knight, Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, and Danny Wood of NKOTB, and AJ McLean, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, and Nick Carter from the BSB, rocked the stage with a medley of hits from each group.

Seeing all nine men together on stage made this 30-something fan jump off the couch … dancing, singing, and cheering them along.  It made me feel like a teenager again, but this time I watched the AMAs with my toddler and didn’t have to go to school the next day!

It was a nice blast from the past, which has now exploded into the present day. By far the best AMAs in years, well decades really.  And having awesome performers like Bon Jovi, Kid Rock, Katy Perry, and Black Eyed Peas perform didn’t hurt, either!

NKOTBSB recently announced their summer 2011 tour, which confirmed rumors that had been circulating since the BSB made a surprise appearance during a NKOTB show at Radio City Music Hall this past summer.

I thought the performance was great! It was a little pitchy on both groups’ parts, but from what I’ve heard, the whole night SOUNDED pretty bad (everyone from Miley to Pink). I can’t wait for the tour. I (a 29 year old die hard NKOTB fan) will get to go to a concert with my 21 year old cousin (an equally die hard BSB fan) and it should be a great time!

Video: Kevin Richardson Reunites With Backstreet Boys To Perform “I Want It That Way” On Oprah November 6th, 2010 by admin in Music Videos Video: Kevin Richardson Reunites With Backstreet Boys To Perform “I Want It That Way” On Oprah In the late 90s, the Backstreet Boys owned the airwaves and Billboard ctarhs. Although they’re still releasing music, BSB will never quite be what it used to be, partially due to the fact that they’re missing member Kevin Richardson. Fans of BSB were given the ultimate treat today (November 4) when all five members reunited […] Read more on Neon Limelight

awww, your posts always make me smile. Thinking of my own rencet NYEs they are highly unremarkable. Two years ago I felt crummy and went to bed around 9pm, year before I worked till 11 but did make it to a shindig with friends to play games till sleepiness won out. This past year was actually suppose to be Brannon and I’s first midnight together – instead I ended up working till 3am and only realized midnight had come and gone when a resident pointed it out to me while I passed out water jugs. hmmm, what does that say about my upcoming year? on one level choosing work/finances over personal time is mature and depressing too. On the other hand I love that it was something that Brannon and I just rolled with. We had a wonderful new years day doing our kind of stuff, and we had an amazing first christmas together even though I worked both Christmas eve and day. these things I think bode well. Oh my! If I’m going to ramble this much perhaps I should get my own blog. I actually wanted to tell you how one of my all time favorite new years was having fondue with liz and her family then ended up at Brett’s house hanging out with him and his parents when we all went around the room sharing what we’d learned and what we hoped for the new year then everyone exchanging european cheek kisses at midnight.Anyways I love so much that your blog helps me keep up with you and Brett and Max and I can’t wait till we’re all actually in OH at the same time or you guys take a western vacation or I make it down south again! Happy 2011!

    3. Provost Dr. Tom Burish stated in the release that “While Notre Dame would have preferred to maintain its independence, the financial realities of the world of college football made the decision a necessity.” He also said that “The longstanding tradition of the schools in the Big 10 conference best fit that of the Irish program”, according to reports.

MarisI would agree that nsync was hands down the better danrecs of all the groups mentioned. Problem was, they lipsync’d their fast numbers to pretaped vocals. JC admitted this himself in an interview and it was certainly obvious to most observers. It’s easy to sound great when it is ten voices you are hearing, with no drop outs or breathlessness, not five. Their contemporaries, the Backstreet Boys prided themselves ON the vocals, recognizing at the end of the day, that is what fans will have with them in their rooms and cars on CDs, not the dancing done at a concert. So yes, they cut back their dancing so that they did NOT sing to pretaped vocals during their heyday-that is what set them apart.

Your NYE sounds prttey darn perfect to me….we were *happily* asleep 15 minutes after the countdown. I almost changed into my jammies too for the countdown, but I was too lazy to go up the stairs at my parents house. Oh, and our toasting beverages? Water, Welch’s grape juice, and warm milk. Yeahhhh buddy!
