Many stars will be present at theÂ “Stand Up To Cancer” telethon on Friday night, including some who are cancer survivors themselves.
Cancer survivors Christina Applegate, Michael C. Hall, Fran Drescher, Maura Tierney, Lance Armstrong, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Elizabeth Edwards, “Survivor: Africa” winner Ethan Zohn, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Robin Roberts, and Sofia Vergara are scheduled to participate in the telethonÂ to raise money for cancer research.Â Also expected, and his appearance may be on tape, is actor Michael Douglas, who recently announced he was diagnosed with throat cancer and is undergoing treatment.
Lisa Niemi, the wife of late actor Patrick Swayze, who died of cancer last year, is also scheduled to participate.
Among the other stars expected to appear on the “Stand Up To Cancer” telethonÂ are Denzel Washington, Renee Zellweger, George Clooney, Will Smith, Seth Rogen, Vanessa Hudgens, and Reese Witherspoon.Â Musical performances are set toÂ include Neil Diamond, Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, Queen Latifah, Martina McBride, Jakob Dylan, The Edge, and Lady Antebellum.Â
The “Stand Up To Cancer” campaign has raised more than $100 million for cancer research since it started in 2008, according to reports.
“Stand Up to Cancer” will air live (without commercials) on Friday, SeptemberÂ 10, 2010, at 8 p.m. ET and PT/7 p.m. CT on all of the major networks CBS, ABC, NBC, and FOX, as well as several cable channels including HBO, Showtime,Â E!, and VH-1 (see photo for more details).Â Â Katie Couric, Brian Williams, and Diane Sawyer will host the event.
