Cancer Survivors Among Stars At ‘Stand Up To Cancer’ Telethon (How to Donate)

Many stars will be present at the ”Stand Up To Cancer” telethon on Friday night, including some who are cancer survivors themselves.

Cancer survivors Christina Applegate, Michael C. Hall, Fran Drescher, Maura Tierney, Lance Armstrong, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Elizabeth Edwards, “Survivor: Africa” winner Ethan Zohn, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Robin Roberts, and Sofia Vergara are scheduled to participate in the telethon to raise money for cancer research.  Also expected, and his appearance may be on tape, is actor Michael Douglas, who recently announced he was diagnosed with throat cancer and is undergoing treatment.

Lisa Niemi, the wife of late actor Patrick Swayze, who died of cancer last year, is also scheduled to participate.

Among the other stars expected to appear on the “Stand Up To Cancer” telethon are Denzel Washington, Renee Zellweger, George Clooney, Will Smith, Seth Rogen, Vanessa Hudgens, and Reese Witherspoon.  Musical performances are set to include Neil Diamond, Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, Queen Latifah, Martina McBride, Jakob Dylan, The Edge, and Lady Antebellum. 

The “Stand Up To Cancer” campaign has raised more than $100 million for cancer research since it started in 2008, according to reports.

“Stand Up to Cancer” will air live (without commercials) on Friday, September 10, 2010, at 8 p.m. ET and PT/7 p.m. CT on all of the major networks CBS, ABC, NBC, and FOX, as well as several cable channels including HBO, Showtime, E!, and VH-1 (see photo for more details).  Katie Couric, Brian Williams, and Diane Sawyer will host the event.

Donations can be made via telephone during the show, anytime online at www.su2c.org or Text STAND to 40202 to give $10 now. 100% of the funds received from the public go to research, according to the ’s web site.
