Meb Keflezighi won the New York City Marathon this morning and completed it with a personal best time of 2:09:15.  An American hasn’t won the NYC Marathon since 1982.

Meb Keflezighi, 34, emigrated from Ethiopia to San Diego, California in 1987 and became a US citizen in 1998. Keflezighi has been running most of his life and won a silver medal at the 2004 Olympics.

  • 4-time NCAA champion
  • American 10,000m record holder
  • Olympic Trials 10,000m record holder
  • U.S. Championships 10,000m record holder

Derartu Tulu, 37 from Ethiopia was the first female to finish the NYC Marathon this morning with a completion time of 2:28:52. Keflezighi and Tulu will each receive $130,000 in prize money.

NYC Marathon Street Closings

Most streets and bridges along the New York Marathon route will be closed to traffic during the race. To help you get around, here is a list of the planned closings on Sunday, Nov. 4:

Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, Staten Island-Brooklyn

Upper level (both directions): closed 12:01 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Lower level, Staten Island-bound side: closed 7 a.m.-Noon.

Lower level, Brooklyn-bound side: closed 8 a.m.-11 a.m.
