Obama Nobel Peace Prize For What?

Get in the queue, there’s a line of users wanting to know exactly that. Obama and his team themselves had no clue to begin with. In fact the White House was not even aware that Obama had been nominated for this prize.

Remember when Obama was inaugurated to the position? The Nobel committee had just 12 more days remaining to accept the nominations.

Obama was humble about receiving the award and made it clear in diplomatic speak that even though he has no outstanding moment worthy of this award, he accepts it as a recognition for American Leadership.

The Nobel Committee had something like this to say about recognizing Obama, Obama is a catalyst for change and hope to not just the Americans but to the entire world.

I would agree to that. Check out Obama’s Nobel Peace prize acceptance speech full video and text below:

Only four United States presidents have ever won the Nobel Peace Prize.

President Barrack Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize that was announced this morning.

President Jimmy Carter received the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize for his work “to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development” through The Carter Center. Carter won this award after he was in office, and is only US President to win the award after being president.

Woodrow Wilson received the 1919 Nobel Peace Prize.  Wilson went to Paris to create the League of Nations and form the Treaty of Versailles, and won the award for these efforts.

Theodore Roosevelt was awarded the 1906 Nobel Peace Prize for negotiating an end to the Russo-Japanese War.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee said their decision to award the prize to Obama was because of his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.

“I am both surprised and deeply humbled,” Obama said at the White House on Friday.

“I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many transformative figures that have been honored by this prize,” Obama said. “I will accept this award as a call to action, a call for all nations to confront the challenges of the 21st century.”

The President said he will travel to Oslo, Norway to accept the prize.

There are some critics around the world who do not believe Obama was the right choice because he still oversees wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and has launched deadly counter-terror strikes in Pakistan and Somalia, The Associated Press (AP) reported.

Obama said he was working to end the war in Iraq and “to confront a ruthless adversary that directly threatens the American people and our allies” in Afghanistan, The AP reported.

Other U.S. presidents who have won the award while in office include President Theodore Roosevelt, who won in 1906, and President Woodrow Wilson, who won in 1919.
