Anamika Veeramani,14, of Ohio, won the 2010 Scripps National Spelling Bee on Friday.

Veeramani, an eighth grader, won the spelling bee with the word “stromuhr”.  She tied for fifth place in the 2009 Scripps National Spelling Bee.

There were 273 competitors this year, with the greatest number of U.S.-based spellers in the history of the event, according to the spelling bee’s official web site.  For more facts about the spelling bee, click here.

The finals of the 2010 Scripps National Spelling Bee aired live from Washington, D.C., on ABC on Friday at 8 p.m. (ET) with hosts Erin Andrews, an ESPN reporter who recently won third place on “Dancing with the Stars,” and Chris Harrison, host of “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette.”
