Pelagornithid

The remarkable intact fossilized skeleton of a huge, bony-serrated sea bird that perhaps died thousands and thousands of years ago was discovered on Peru’s dry southern coast.

According to the experts, the head structure found of the animal is so far the best preserved braincase ever found of a pelagornithid. 

Pelagornithidae, as they are more commonly known are a family of large birds who mainly fly over the sea. They are believed to have gone extinct some 3 million years ago.

This date information is all from the head of vertebrate paleontology at Peru’s National History Museum. I have no doubt that perhaps this would incrase the popularity of his museum now.

For those of us who are concerned about the deteriorating education and science standards in the country, Obama brings some relief. Lets not forget it is the science and technology which have propelled the outstanding American growth trajectory in the last century and if America has to be maintain that edge, it should continue to do well in this sphere.
