The Great American Escape

Kenneth Heywood, an employee of Campbell White, a US based computer and soft-skills training company, has given the Indian security officials a slip and left the Country after being asked not to.

He was questioned by the Anti-terrorist squad (ATS) and the Mumbai and Delhi Police after it was found out that his internet protocol (IP) was used to send the terror email just 5 minutes before blasts ripped the city of Ahmedabad last month.

His legal advisor has come up with the lamest excuse that Heywood was scared a narcotic analysis, which was supposed to be conducted by the security officials, would cause substantial brain damage. The US embassy has refused to provide any details regarding the matter.

The Delhi Police is blaming the immigration officials at Delhi Airport for the negligence. What is baffling is why would Heywood escape if he has nothing to hide. Supposedly he was accused of being a CIA agent, Navy Seal, Commando, by the authorities. How far this is correct is yet to be seen.

The Indian Police and ATS should duck in shame at their stupidity for not keeping tabs on him. Even if he was not a suspect, he was still being interrogated. Did they think Heywood would be always obliging and wait for his next call? HE IS AN AMERICAN for heaven’s sake. They can get away with anything even if they have Guatanamo Bay to their name.

Kashmir in Shambles

India watches as Kashmir falls into anarchy. The situation has now completely gone out of the hands of the Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti, the PDP, the Hurriyat and the Indian Government. It has metamorphosed into a mass movement with errant and unemployed vagabonds taking stock of the situation. Hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani saying “We are Pakistanis and Pakistan is Ours”.

Jade Goody and Cancer

What an utter waste of time and sleep the new Bigg Boss season has been. The occupants of the house are all really wannabes of the Indian television and political circuit. Yes, you heard me right, a politician has been invited to the house. The show is horrible and lacks the spunk of the first season. And unfortunately the only one who could have sparked some interest, Jade Goody, has been diagnosed with cancer and has to leave the show.

I think even the svelte Shilpa Shetty will not be able to save the show with such lacklustre participants.

Link to Gujarat Blasts

In what is being seen as a breakthrough in the investigations involving the serial blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad, the Gujarat police claim to have arrested the mastermind behind these attacks.

Mufti Abu Bashir is allegedly a member of the banned Islamic organization SIMI and had held the meetings in Baroda andAhmedabad to plan the attacks. He had also convened meets and training camps in Ernakulam and was attended by several students.

They were trained in methods of bomb handling an dlpanting in strategic positions to diffuse them. But the most shocking news is that an engineer, Taufiq, who was employed with a Wipro subsidiary, had provided all th etechnical assistance in this project. He is absconding. In total 10 people have been arrested and will be put to the polygraph test before confirming the allegations.

But Abu Bashir’s family insists that he is innocent. Police believe that the same group might be linked with the blasts in Mumbai, Bangalore, Rajasthan, Delhi.

Bigg Boss 2

Shilpa Shetty will be hosting the second season of the reality tv show Bigg Boss. It is fashioned along the lines of The Big Brother show which Shilpa won last season. But the best part is that Jane Goody, her tormentor at the Big Brother’s house will also be participating in the show.

It will be really interesting to see how the bad girl-turned-good of the house behaves herself in a houseful of Indians. And the reactions she gets from her fellow inmates will be also worth waiting for. Well there is definitely not going to be less drama on the television screen after the show goes on air on the 17th of August.

But the viewers will surely be missing Rakhi Sawant this time. She seems to add the extra zing to everything she participates in.

Army Crash

The Army helicopter, Cheetah, crashed in eastern Ladakh. Two army officers and a jawan were killed. The copter was on a rescue mission but due to bad weather the pilots lost contact with the base. The army has ordered a court of inquiry. It is now to wait and see the outcome of the inquiry and hope that it is indeed due to the weather and not due to technical or mechanical errors of the copter.

Bachna Ae Haseeno - First Review

Well I have seen it, the most awaited movie of the year. I caught the midnight premier of the movie and it was FABULOUS !!!

Siddharth Anand has a good script at hand. It is a movie Yashraj always made and THANK GOD they have not experimented. Now what all you people have been waiting for - the STORY.

The movie begins with Ranbir Kapoor burning the dance floor with the sizzling hot Deepika Padukone, Bipasha Basu and Minnissha Lamba to the classic number “bachna ae haseeno”. Then we have the very first shot of Ranbir Kapoor in Sydney recounting the story of his life thusfar. Cut to 1996 when 18 year old Raj (Ranbir) goes on a euro-rail holiday to Europe with his friends after finishing school more for the imported girls than the “imported cows, imported grass and imported mountains”.

The Debacle Named Sania Mirza

In India we tend to always give advantage to certain sports and sports persons who are low on substance but high on the glamor quotient. Cricket and Sania Mirza are central to all this adulation.

Cricket is given so much importance that we have forgotten hockey is our National game. We are totally unaware of our hockey players who are given a pittance for their efforts and  absolutely no proper guidance and facilities.

Bangalore Rave Club Raid

A rave party in a club outside the city of Bangalore was raided by yet another self appointed custodian of morality. They thrashed the men and abused the women in the party till the police came and managed to separate the men clawing at each other. In another incident, the police have banned all live bands from performing in Bangalore. Sunday saw the artists, students and locals protesting against the order on MG Road in Bangalore.

If the problem is noise pollution then I feel the police should stop all religious and political rallies, celebrations and public processions too. Street performances are seen as an important platform for the future growth of new music bands and theatre groups. Banning them would be curbing an outlet of new talent.
