Joran Van der Sloot, the main suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Natalee Holloway in Aruba, has made a second confession in an interview he gave to a German TV station.
According to Van der Sloot, Hollloway’s body was hidden in marshes of the Caribbean Island. Van der Sloot made the comments to a German broadcaster, and a second interview is reportedly planned in Frankfurt this week. In his earlier confession, he told reporters that Holloway’s body was dumped at sea. He has also claimed in the past that Holloway died accidentally and that he did not kill her.
Aruban justice department officials doubt Van der Sloot’s latest confession stating that although this has sparked new inquiries into the case, it will soon become clear that this is a mixture of lies and fantasies. Another official also commented that if Van der Sloot was telling the truth, then he would name the exact spot where the body was hidden.
Van der Sloot is thought to be in the Netherlands where he attended his father’s funeral last week.
Natalee Holloway, from Mountain Brook, Ala., was 18 when she was last seen leaving a bar in the Aruban capital in 2005 on the final night of a high school graduation trip. No trace of her has even been found.
