Lindsey Vonn had all odds stacked against her when she came down to Vancouver to compete for the top most spot in the Downhill at the Olympics.
It took Lindsey Vonn only 104 seconds to take the gold from right under everyone else’s nose. She managed to make history by almost achieving the impossible, how often do we hear a story about an athlete with an awful injury rising to the challenge and taking the top spot anyway? It seemed like the plot of a movie to most people.
The likes of Mancuso (who finished in at 1:44.75)Â and Austria’s Elisabeth Goergl (who finished in at 1:45.65) were standing in line to face off against Lindsey Vonn. Mancuso was being projected as the gold winnner before the competition even began, she is also Vonn’s close friend in all matters other than the Olympics. Over the years when they were pitted against one another Lindsey Vonn was normally able to leave Julia Mancuso behind.
Her husband Thomas Vonn was right by her side supporting her throughout.
This is another first for the USA after Kearney’s win as Lindsey Vonn was the first woman from the US to take fold at the downhill.
