I am watching the 10m diving competition right now and despite having all the right moves, the Americans, (particularly Thomas Finchum), are trailing. Something is not right.

My guess is that he really IS gay, but either suppresses it, or hasn’t come to terms with it yet. I think his family is pretty religious, so that’s probably not helping. Maybe he will have a similar breakdown as Matt Mitchum from AUS and come out by the next Olympics and then take gold!

People sure are touchy. There hasn’t been a single person who’s said anything negative about being gay – or implied anything negative – except for those people claiming to know him! People aren’t asking because they’re being rude, they’re asking because it would be nice to see a talented, athletic, OLYMPIAN who’s gay (and out)! With all the stereotypes of gay men, athletes who are openly gay (like Matthew Mitchum) just serve as an excellent role model not only to gay people, but to people who don’t realize that gay people are everywhere, including among some of the best athletes in the world.
Is it important to discuss his accomplishments and talent? Absolutely, and that’s being done all over the web, and was talked about on National television each time he performed. Now people want to know a bit of personal information. It may not be their business, but it certainly doesn’t seem like anyone means any harm… it’s just simple curiosity.

Folks – I am a gay man, and yes my gaydar was buzzing – BUT – please think what kind of pressure this speculation will put on this young man. I came out to my Mum just before I was 21 – and I certainly was not ready to do that at 18. I only had to contend with the ‘normal’ pressures of coming out to family and friends. Here we have a young athlete who is growing up on the world stage, with the eyes of the world staring at him, and sponsors to keep ‘happy’. Whomever he decides to be, and love, will be his decision, in his own time. S lets cut him some slack and wish him all the best for his up coming challenges, both on and off the diving boards.

Everyone is just trying to find a problem with him because they are jealous because he is a way better diver than they are. He has worked very hard to get where he is. I do not believe Tom to be gay.
I believe he has been involved in some extraordinarily physical training over several years and that may have delayed his puberty.
The newspapers have all reported that he grew a half a foot taller in a short amount of time. Perhaps the rest of him needs to catch up.

No offence, but you guys are very biased! Just because he seems gay/looks gay or acts gay doesn’t mean he is! For example, tons of koreans guys around where I live look gay (to american standards). Look feminine, act feminine, but believe it or not, they are not gay!
I met him in the airport about 2 weeks before he went to China. Up close he looks like likes he’s fourteen year old and he seems to be very sweetly shy. He is extremely cute. He may not be effeminate as much as maybe slightly immature. I wonder if it could be the home schooling and depriving him of a normal interaction with kids his own age. His Mom was handling all of his ticketing paperwork like he was just a kid.

Since there’s absolutely nothing wrong with being gay – it’s a rather innocuous question, don’t you think? Personally, I think he is. And I suspect he’s left-handed.

He seems so sweet. God, I hope he is gay, with all the nasty queens we have in the gay world, it would be nice to have a sweet boy in the mix.
It really isn’t that important if he is g0y or not but, it can be a heavy burden having a “secret” like that while trying to perform under the publics watchful eye; your nervous, wondering if people see or know your secret. Is there something about you that suggests it? There are many views around subjects like this that can really distract you. Not that the public would truly care (accept maybe a hand full of jerks), it would enable the performer to focus on what has to be done, not worry about the cute walk or, s0xy voice but, be able to perform without any of this becoming a distraction.
I think he’s g0y but, for a straight guy I also think he’s pretty cute! Who cares! When he’s up on that board, he can strut it, shake it, rub it or, do what ever it takes to get him up in the air, keeping good verticle and landing the dive! Thomas has a large family and I assure you that if he is gay we would still support him as we do with all of our family members. Thomas is a relative of mine and I think it is appauling that you have nothing better to do than try to ruin someones image or start rumors. grow up and concentrate on your own issues.
