Former U.S. Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan’s father died over the weekend, and her brotherÂ was arrested in connection with his death.
Daniel Kerrigan, 70, was found unresponsive at his Stoneham, Mass., home on Sunday morning, according to The Boston Globe. He was later pronounced dead at Winchester Hospital.
Mark Kerrigan, 45, has been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on an elderly person and causing serious bodily injury, according to reports. A police report filed in courtÂ states thatÂ the son attacked his father during an argument about whether he could use the phone.Â There were also reports that the son may have been under the influence of alcohol.
Police said Monday that Mark Kerrigan has not been charged with murder. Daniel Kerrigan’s cause of death is pending autopsy results.
Nancy Kerrigan, 40, won the silver medal in the 1994 Winter Olympics.Â She is also known for a January 1994 incident where she was hit in the knee by a baton-wielding associate of rival skater Tonya Harding in a planned attack aimed at boosting Harding’s chances at the U.S. Championships, according to reports.
