Haiti breaking news: humanitarian efforts after the Haitian earthquake continue on in to the night.Â The 7.0 earthquake in Haiti shook the world, and many are preparing to help out the Western Hemisphere’s poorest nation – no questions asked.
There are estimates that as many as 45,000 Americans were in Haiti at the time of the earthquake.Â
Breaking Haiti news includes Obama’s orders for rapid mobilization for help in the rescue and humanitarian efforts. He even canceled a speech on job creation in order to help deal with the natural disasters.
Haiti had just recovered from the 2008 hurricanes, when the earthquake struck. The quake is stronger than any earthquake in the region during our lifetimes.
People are flocking to social media to donate money for rescue efforts. Over $1 million has already been donated to the Red Cross via $10 individual donations. Notices were sent out via FaceBook and Twitter.
Many are feared dead in the natural disaster. The Presidential Palace has suffered damage, as has many governmental buildings and hospitals.Â Haitian officials have asked for a hospital ship to be sent to the area to help deal with the injured.
