Tsunami watches after earthquake hits Haiti.Â A major eartquake in Haiti has caused Tsunami watches to be issued.Â According to reports that are surfacing, an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.3 has struck about 10 miles southwest of Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti at about 4:53 PM local time.
Although the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center confirms that there was no widespread tsunami following the earthquake in Haiti, there could be residual or local Tsunamis affecting coasts within 100 kilometers from the epicenter of the earthquake.
â€œAuthorities for the region near the epicenter should be aware of this possibility. Areas further from the epicenter could experience small sea level changes and strong or unusual coastal currents.â€ Is what the bulletin said.
Because of the earthquake in Haiti, there have been Tsunami watches issued for the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Cuba, and the Bahamas.
