Pacquiao vs Clottey is the fight du jour, now that talks with the Mayweather camp appear to be over for Manny Pacquiao. Pacquiao is ready to fight, and his people have been trying to find a suitable backup fighter to replace Mayweather. Names such as Paulie Malignaggi have been thrown around, and today’s reports indicate it could be Pacquiao vs Clottey on March 13th at the MGM Grand.
Bleacher Report states “Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach has just informed ESPN’s Brian Kenny that Manny Pacquiao is now scheduled to face Joshua Clottey. ” The writer verified the apparent matchup in BoxRec, and it looks legit.
Still yet, there are many conspiracy theorists that think there is something up and that there will, indeed, be a match between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather on March 13th.
Joshua Clottey is said to have not received a contract yet on the fight. The fight coule be a good one, and many are wondering if Floyd Mayweather, Jr will fight Foreman or Malignaggi now that it appears as if his would-be opponent is trying to work out a fight with another fighter.
Joshua Clottey may not have the credentials of Mayweather, but if he were to beat Pacquiao, he would send the fighter’s reputation in to a tailspin. He’s a tough fighter, and some assume that if he had simply been more active in final rounds and if he hadn’t broken his hand he would have beaten Cotto and Margarito.
Pacquiao recently beat Cotto, so theoretically he should be able to beat Clottey, too.
So fight fans may still have something to look forward to on March 13th.
