First Baby of 2010 Arrived at 12:02 AM in Grand Rapids, Michigan

First Baby of 2010:  The first baby born in 2010 was an 8 pound 6 oz baby girl named Angel Gonzales.  Angel made her appearance in the world at 12:02 am in a hospital in Michigan.  Her proud parents are Maria Guadelupe-Lopez and Jose Angel Gonzalez.

In 2007, Toys R Us ran a sweepstakes that awarded the first baby born of the year a $25,o00 savings bond.  The first baby of the year that year was a baby boy born to Chinese immigrants.  The baby was disqualified from the sweepstakes. Then, after a lengthy immigration debate, Toys R Us caved in and gave the baby and two other babies that were born to non-resident immigrants $25,000 each.

The story from 2007 shows that there is much to gain from being the first baby born of the year.  Gift baskets, scholarships, and free medical care are all likely prizes awarded to the hospitals.

The winner of the “I Love Guam New Year Baby” campaign was Jezariah Anjalique Fausto.  He was the first American baby born in Guam.  He won a hefty prize package valued at over $5,000 which included savings bonds, a car seat, and other products.

Your story is incorrect, Jezariah Anjalique was the first U.S. baby born in the U.S. Territory of Guam which is where America’s Day begins…Guam is west of the dateline and 13 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time. New Year’s arrived here way before the birth of Angel Gonzales….also Jezariah Anjalique is a girl, not a boy…
