Heisman Trophy: Alabama’s Mark Ingram Awarded Heisman Trophy

The Heisman Trophy was awarded last night.  The Heisman Trophy was awarded to Alabama running back Mark Ingram.  Ingram is credited with being a main reason that Alabama was able to defeat the Florida Gators during the SEC championship last week.  During the Heisman Trophy acceptance speech, Mark Ingram tear-ed up with pride.

Mark Ingram is the first player to ever win a Heisman Trophy at Alabama.  Other contenders included Tim Tebow, Colt McCoy, Toby Gerhart, and Ndamukong Suh.  Mark Ingram won with only a slim margin of 5 votes over Stanford’s Toby Gerhart, who is credited with taking the team on his shoulders for a rare winning year.

Mark Ingram still has the opportunity this season to wow Alabama fans once more, as Alabama’s Crimson Tide is heading out to the BCS Championship game.

Here is how Mark Ingram told ESPN that he felt when he was awarded the Heisman Trophy:

“When he started reading that letter, my heart started beating and I could feel it beating real fast,” he said. “When he called my name I was excited, then I saw my mom crying and it kind of made me break down, too.”

Mark Ingram deserved the Heisman Trophy.  In fact, all of the 5 contenders were deserving of this award.  Congratulations, Mark Ingram on winning the 75th Heisman Trophy.
