‘Behind every successful man there is a woman’. Sounds “clichéd Doesn’t it? But in case of Anjali Tendulkar, it is true to the last bit.Anjali Tendulkar, a paedriatician by profession, daughter of a Gujarati industrialist Anand Mehta,  married Sachin Tendulkar in 1995.
Although, Anjali had a very promising career ahead of her, she decided to give it up after she married Sachin. In her words, “Though I loved every moment of my studying days and my days at the government hospital, it then came to a stage when I realised that I could not be married to Sachin and also have a full-time career. It wasn’t possible because he depends on me for almost everything. It was my decision. I thought I should be at home with him and make everything perfect for him.”
As she was a pediatrician she realized that she could not devote her time to her family as well as her profession and so she quit, a decision which she has never regretted.
Sachin and Anjali met each other at a chanced meeting at Mumbai Airport in 1990. While Anjali had gone to receive her mother Sachin was back from a tour in England. Anjali who was never interested in cricket did not know him then, they just happened to see each other and cupid struck. After a courtship of 5 years they decided to get married. And since 1995 she has been by his side through his thick and thin.
She has been his friend, philosopher and guide during moments of confusion, a pillar of strength during failures and a wife and girlfriend in his moments of triumph.
Being a celebrity’s wife has its limitations. They are deprived of the smaller joys of life, like shopping, strolling by the beach, or going for a movie. But than fame demands its share of sacrifice. And for a celebrity like Sachin, the quantum of sacrifice is much greater.
