The Nuclear deal is well on its way to becoming a reality. What now needs to be seen is if the US plays its part in providing an exemption from the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG). But in all this what actually gets highlighted is the grave the Communists have dug for themselves in India.
They were manipulative right from the very start when the UPA was formed. They had always opposed every step and policy the Government tried framing and threatened to quit. The Nuclear Deal is a historic partnership between the US and India which will consolidate the latter position in world politics.
The Left’s opposition to it on grounds of accepting US domination is unfounded. The common man is still waiting for an explanation from Prakash Karat for his historic blunders and faulty decisions.
When the Left withdrew support from the UPA and demanded for a Vote of Confidence, India didnot expect Karat and his men to side with Mayawati and her likes against the Congress. But then considering the militant and caste based politics they have always preached and instigated, this seems but natural.
The Left warned Mulayam Singh Yadav that Samajwadi Party would lose its Muslim support if he sided with the Congress. This again highlights their political ideology which seems very similar to what the Sangh Parivar preaches. It even had the audacity to sit through the BJP staged drama of waving wads of currency in the parliament to deface the Congress.
But the gravest crime Prakash Karat committed was to expel the Speaker Mr. Somnath Chatterjee from the CPM rather unceremoniously. Even children in school studying elementary civics know that a speaker’s post is an unbiased one and that his foremost duty is to uphold the Constitution of India. But the statement of the senior politburo members that Mr. Chatterjee is first a Communist and then a guardian of the Indian Constitution is abominable.
The Left for its totalitarian ideology is not popular, except for West Bengal, Kerala and Tripura, will now surely die in India. Comrade Harkishen Singh Surjeet’s demise will be a major blow to the Left as visionaries like him were, and are, very few in the Left today.
Fundamentally, the Communist Manifesto was a rebellion against the extreme poverty of the lower class.
