You have been contributing to your social security kitty for years. And whenever you wanted to check out how much were you going to get in social security, it always meant waiting for that government letter for estimates.
Things have changed and technology has bypassed some barriers. Now the Social Security Administration has unveiled its new retirement estimator on its Web site. Using the Social Security calculator, it will take you just a few points and clicks and some personal information to produce benefit estimates in few minutes.
Now that should get you some relief.
But hold on, there is more. Once you know your benefits, it will be followed in the coming weeks (fall some sources are saying) by an updated online application for benefits.
This is expected to reduce application time from the current 45-minute process to 15 minutes — and eliminate the need for follow-up visits to agency field offices.
One more bureaucratic red tape obstacle down.
