After watching the documentary and seeing the story behind this monument, I would say its got to be the best memorial every built. Of course each memorial has its own significance and it would be hard to rate memorials, especially which honor the sacrifices made by those in the Army [like India Gate etc.], but there is definitely something about the Vietnam Wall which is missing in others.
It could be the the processs of selection where the design was selected in a blind contest, meaning the design and only the design was looked at and the designer, his/her past achievement etc were totally taken out of the loop. Another fact, the simplicity and etching the names of those dead or missing in action whereby the onlookers could actually feel the wall and the etched names added to the whole experience.
Now for those who cannot go to Washington DC to drink in the sights of one of the greatest memorials can watch it online in a virtual world.
The website has been specifically made for this http://www.virtualwall.org/ Check it out and honor those who gave it their all when called upon to do so.
