I was so sad to hear about Buddy. He was bigger than life, and I almost thought he might beat the cancer — he had such drive and determination – such an incredible will to live.

It still feels weird to call him Patrick, since we all called him Buddy back then.

Buddy was in my thoughts yesterday, oddly enough. It was almost surreal to hear over the news that he had lost his battle.

I knew Buddy, but didn’t know him well. We shared a study hall together and he sat across on the next row from me. He was always polite and kind and I was such a wallflower/geek. I considered it a special kindness that that gorgeous guy could take time to talk and joke around with me. My sister went to school with his brother, Don.

As a truck driver, I took particular delight in his movie “Black Dog”. I even got to use one of his lines from the movie. I had another driver riding with me at one point, and hit a bump in the road — he exclaimed, “What was that!?” And I replied simply, “A Mazda….”

As he said in an interview, he took solace in knowing that we were all going to die, it’s just a matter of when. I’m sure that even though it was expected intellectually, this is no less devastating to his wife, Lisa. I urge any one who is close to her to help her through this now.

Thanks, Buddy, for who you were and the type of man you grew to be.

Those of us who knew him “when” have taken great pride and joy in his life and achievements.

My sisters and I send our love to his family and special heartfelt prayers to his wife, Lisa. The world will be a lesser place without him.

    With love and prayers

I did not know Patrick. Everything I read about him and saw truly testified to the type of man his family must know him to be. He was one of few examples in Hollywood that were true and shinning stars. A true role model for those around him and people watching. May God bless his family and give you peace in this hard time. He will be missed by millions of people whose lives he touched in unique ways.

    love and prayers.
