So far honor killing or daughter killing had been witnessed as a social ill (but a phenomenon nonetheless) only in Asia. But not any more.
The perpetrators are the same but due to immigration the problem has now reached the shores of United States as well. An incident has been reported in Georgia where the father, of Pakistani descent, killed the daughter after she refused to marry the man picked out by him.
According to news reports,
A Georgia father of Pakistani descent allegedly strangled his 25-year-old daughter because she wanted to get out of an arranged marriage to a man she had not seen in months, according to police in Clayton County, Ga.
The father, Chaudhry Rashid, was caught at the scene of the crime. Police was notified of a dometic disturbance call and when they responded they found the daughter dead in the upstairs bedroom.
Such cases had been common in Europe with its large swathe of low educated immigrants from Muslim nations, especially Pakistan. In fact, quite a few European countries had actively prosecuted cases where Father and Sons had murdered the daughter to take revenge in similar circumstances.
American justice system should not tolerate such incidents here and needs to send a clear, unequivocal message to the people with such mindset in this country. A clear example has to be made out of this incident and the harshest possible sentence needs to be given.
This is a crime which deserves absolutely zero tolerance.
