Worth Thousand Words

A common complaint has been heard on the internet about this issue.

What the heck in js.worthathousandwords.com, every time I try to read an email this comes up and I can’t read I only see a blank page and nothing else will happen the js.worthathousandwords.com is at the bottom left hand corner of my screen. Help!

Some of the experts have this answer.

A short term solution is to quickly press escape on the keyboard to stop the js, this would apparently stop the page to load while you are on Yahoo mail.

Worthathousandwords dot com is some sort of service provider that serves images for ads on Yahoo. The big blank screen we see is an image they are serving — maybe by some prankster or maybe some ad gone haywire.

You can disable it (in Firefox) by going to Tools-Options-Content and either uncheck “Enable Javascript” or click on the “Advanced” button to the right of it, and un-check “Move or resize existing windows”.

Yahoo should have more answers about this issue.

Do not forget to run a virus scan on your computer if you are having this problem. Make sure your virus listings are updated.

The fix you posted didn’t work. I checked the box for resizing windows. It is still happening and escape doesn’t do anything. I emailed Yahoo but I don’t expect to hear anything from them for days.

Get Adblock Pro and add the js.worthathousandwords.com to the filter and it will take care of the problem. You will need to click on “tools” then “add ons” then click on “get extensions.” This will take you to the firefox extension page, where you can download Adblock Pro. After the browser restarts, add js.worthathousandwords.com to the filter.

    Jen and Jackie -

Being a web publisher, I think this culprit advertising company – Worththousandwords – has done a big disservice to Advertisers and Publishers alike.

Without properly testing their product or ensuring the ads do not create problems for web surfers, the company released a “bugsy” product which will drive more and more users towards ad block products. This company has killed the goose effectively in my view and should itself be driven out of business by Publishers and Advertisers after this fiasco.

This problem surfaced today on my Yahoo mail account as well. Unchecking “move or resize windows” in Tools for Firefox 3.0 did not work, but unchecking “enable javascript” did work. Thanks for the fix & thank god for Google!

Yes, disabling the JS would resolve this. Most of the ad companies insert serve their ads using the Javascript and since this errant company was also doing the same, disabling JS would/should resolve the problem.

However disabling may affect some other userful features so once you are done with Yahoo Mail, you might want to turn it on for other sites.
