A major Supreme Court ruling which is bound to bring excite gun lovers and make them want to go whoop. Stripped of all its legal jargon, the Supreme Court’s big gun ruling pretty much tracks popular sentiment.
A majority of Americans strongly believe that they have a right to possess a gun in their home for individual self-defense.
And this is exactly what Justice Antonin Scalia and the four other most conservative members of the Court have just granted them their long-hoped-for wish.
However there is an equal majority which believes that there should be sensible restrictions on the use of guns in our society. The Court also took cognizance of this by recognizing the validity of certain reasonable limitations upon the right to bear arms.
This should make everyone happy, right? You are wrong.
Because this recognition by the courts now leave a gaping hole in the interpretation about where to draw the line between an individuals right to bear arms for defense and the governments diktat about implementing reasonable sensible limitations.
For now the gun lovers should bask and rejoice in the judgement, but you can expect the government to start a whole new round of impositions sometime soon.
