Some ideas and updates to the website that I have been experimenting with. In the interest of being more transparent and “open-source” when it comes to information, I have included two new widgets for the benefit of our regular readers.
These widgets would not only facilitate more information about TechBanyan, but can also be used as a case study if you are looking for ways and means to improve the traffic of your own site.
Scroll down below and towards the right bottom you will see two new widgets that I have added not too long ago.
The smaller one is from Amung.us which gives information about how many readers are currently browsing the website. If you click on the small black-and-red icon, you can also view the pages the readers are currently on.
The second and much larger widget is from Feedjit. This widget gives more comprehensive information about the website viewers, where they are coming from and how they reached the website. Almost 99% of the times, the referrer is a search engine like Google, Yahoo, MSN or popular news agregating site like Digg.
If you click on the refer link, like for instance on Google, you can see the keywords that directed the user to TechBanyan.
Additionally, Feedjit also has an “Options” link which include a map showing the visitors location as well as the most popular pages.
These links and options will answer a lot of questions you might have about the site and its readership.
