The only woman on the U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and one its most liberal voice today had surgery for pancreatic cancer.
Justice Ruth Bader was appointed by Bill Clinton and is considered by many to have liberal and progressive views on many issues that are considered sacrosanct by my conservative and republican friends.
Especially since Justice Ginsburg has made it quite apparent that she is in favor of letting women decide whether they want to have the baby or not. In effect Justice Ruth is pro choice and against anti-abortion groups.
Coming back to the close brush Justice Ruth had with death considering the cancer she had – tumor of the pancreas – is considered to be one of the most fatal because it is generally detected by the time when nothing is feasible to protect the life of the patient.
But in this case, since she was undergoing check ups as part of her role assignment on the supreme court, the doctors were able to diagnose and take preventive / corrective action.
So once the only women Supreme Court justice underwent the successful operation, the court released a statement saying Ginsburg, 75, underwent surgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York for removal of a cancerous tumor from her pancreas
Incidentally, according to the media reports, Justice Ginsburg had no symptoms or inclination prior to the incidental discovery of the lesion during a routine annual check-up in late January at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md.
A sophisticated informatics Axial Tomography (CAT) Scan showed a tiny tumor, estimated at 1 (centimeter) across, in the middle of the pancreas.
As many of you know, Justice is the second women to be appointed to the highest court in the country.
