US Airways – Hudson River Plane Crash

plane crash in new york 001 300x180 US Airways Hudson River Plane Crash

By now you are already aware of the downing of a US Airways flight 1549 service from LaGuardia to Charlotte into the picturesque Hudson river in New York. The flight had about 155 passengers and crew inside the plane when the incident occurred. However the tragedy did not turn fatal primarily due to two reasons.

Firs, the pilot of the plane and hats off to him, Chesley B. “Sully” Sullenberger, did an awesome job in landing the by-now defunct plane onto the Hudson river without wrecking the plane. He is the real hero to emerge from this incident.

Second, New Yorkers. And I mean the blood and sweat of everyday New Yorkers who work in civic sections like ferries, fire, police, medical emergency etc. New Yorkers did an absolutely commendable job in stepping up and performing when it really mattered.

When the plane dropped on the Hudson, quite many tourist boats and ferries came to help almost immediately. Whether they were called did not matter. Thats what the true Good Smartian spirit is and NY did not let you down.

Fortunately, no deaths or serious injuries have been reported in the media so far.

I was listening to Mayor Bloomberg’s press conference and I was impressed by his performance. Mayor Bloomberg gave all the right answers and credited all the right folks in saving the day from a tragedy that could have turned fatal.

From what I know, experts are saying that the US Airways jet could have been struck by birds, disabling one or both of its engines.
