Attorney General Eric Holder

President elect Barack Obama has filled out another position in his new administration. President Obama (sounds so fresh, and I have always referred to Bush as Bush jr) has offered Eric Holder the position of attorney general. Eric Holder has already accepted it from what I have come to know on the grape vine.

The formal announcement has been held up while Obama transition team members ran the idea past key senators. This means that officially Obama would announce it a bit later but we already know who is going to hold the position.

So who is Eric Holder and what is his experience, bio etc. What does he bring to the table. Is he going to be a qualified attroney general to the American people. Lets find that out below and take a peep in Eric’s life.

Eric Holder Bio:

Holder is a Bronx, NY native and he was born in 1951 to parents who had come to US from Barbados. Eric grew up in Queens and was educated at Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan and attended Columbia University.  Holder is married to Sharon Malone, an obstetrician and the pair has, I think, three children.

Eric Holder Experience:

After graduating from Columbia Law School Holder worked in the U.S. Justice Department as a trial attorney in the Public Integrity Section from 1976 to 1988. During his time there he helped prosecute Democratic Congressman John Jenrette for bribery discovered in the Abscam sting operation

Deputy Attorney General

In 1997, when Jamie Gorelick retired, Clinton nominated Holder to be the next Deputy Attorney General under Janet Reno. Holder was quickly confirmed several months later in the Senate by a bi partisan vote

Supported D.C. Handgun Ban

In early 2008, Holder joined a brief in D.C. v. Heller along with Janet Reno and a handful of other former Justice Department officials in support of banning guns in D.C.

Obama presidential campaign

In late 2007, Holder joined Senator Barack Obama’s presidential campaign as a senior legal affairs advisor where he also assisted Team Obama in its vice presidential selection committee.

So in a nutshell, Eric was already close to the Clinton folks, supports gun ban, and without a doubt shares legal philosophy with Obama. I am yet to see any change. Its just the continuation of Clinton era administrators it seem. But they are still better than Bush era civil servants.
