The term in office of Barry Melrose was as long as 16 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning and right after that he was made to walk on the chopping block.
The NHL club “relievedâ€, (a politically correct term for being fired), Melrose of his head coaching job by putting who else but the assistant coach Rick Tocchet as the temporary head coach.
The management is saying it was a tough decision to make. Yeah right! But they referred to Barry as a good man and also added for effect that they have a great deal of respect for him. They wished him success but said the results were simply unacceptable and the players have to understand that we need to be better.
Melrose was hired June 24 to replace John Tortorella, who led the Lightning to a Stanley Cup championship in 2004 before being fired himself as well.
Looks like the team is jinxed. Who ever takes on the job, can do nothing but get fired. But this a team that new Coaches don’t fear taking on and start coaching. Thats because if they are successful they are credited with improving the performance but if they are not able to do the turn around, everybody just blames the players who have been on a losing streak. Its the other way round in case the last coach was successful.
