Between all the silly “Hussein” nonsense and the “Palin’s a stupid M*LF” crap, we’ve seen very little debate of substance in here on what you actually think will be different if the candidate you support takes office. I’m looking for concrete differences here, not just snarkiness and attacks.
It seems an obvious enough question, and I’m surprised it’s taken this long for anyone to really ask it, so I’m asking it now.
What specific differences do you expect in the coming 4-8 years if Obama wins or if McCain wins?
Lets take a look at some of the differences.
Supreme Court Appointments (and general judiciary appointments)
Over the past 8 years, the Bush administration has packed the lower courts with judges hostile to civil liberties and the enforcement of anti-trust laws.
I expect Obama will begin to reverse this problem and retain the balance of power on the SCOTUS.
US Standing in the World
The standing of the US is in shreds. I know many right wingers don’t care what the rest of the world things, but it is easier to get people to do what you want when people like you than when they don’t. Obama will improve our standing, and I believe he will do it without compromising American principles or security.
McCain, on the other hand, will continue the Bush foreign policy approach of “might makes right” and further alienate the world. The result will be the development of a very instable world power structure.
McCain is a war monger. I very much expect he will start a war with Iran and I don’t think he will ever leave Iraq.
I expect Obama may even be able to reach a peaceful solution and reconcile the US, Iran, and Israel.
Obama has the capacity to make the people of this country better than we are. That’s what a leader does. He motivates those he leads to exceed themselves. I see that in everything Obama has ever done.
I don’t see that in McCain.
I am running out of space, but I wanted to touch on…
WHERE THEY WILL BE THE SAME
They are both economic morons, with Obama being slightly less moronic than McCain. The real trouble here is that McCain has surrounded himself with economic ideologues whereas Obama looks like he will have some very pragmatic economic minds working with him.
Big Business/Big Media
They are not going to do anything to dismantle the power structure of big business and big media.
