Cassowaries are becoming popular. For the life of me I would not have figured out that its a bird but thats what it is. Cassowaries, just like their cousins Dodo, are very large flightless birds native to the tropical forests of New Guinea and northeastern Australia.
The Southern Cassowary is the third largest flightless bird on the planet, second only to the ostrich and emu. We all knew about Emu and Ostrich but this is the first time I am hearing about Cassowary.
Cassowaries are omnivores and feed mainly on fruits, though all species are truly omnivorous and will take a range of other plant food including shoots, grass seeds and fungi in addition to invertebrates and small vertebrates.
First time I saw this bird, I thought its a Turkey or some distinct variety of one.
Cassowaries happen to be very shy which means they generally stay away from everything, but when disturbed, they are capable of inflicting fatal injuries to an adult human. Today, they are considered the most dangerous bird in the world. Take that. Don’t ever think of messing with one.
