According to emerging reports, it seems Youtube has been banned in Pakistan. Variety of reasons are being offered as to the reasons of banning this popular videos website – starting from blasphemous material on line to showing material considered morally objectionable in an orthodox society like Pakistan’s.
However, there is another mainstream opinion according to which the reasons could be more “political” than “cultural”.
There were large number of videos which showed actual footage of electoral rigging taking place in the recently concluded elections.
Here is one which shows a polling agent “supposedly” favoring a particular ethnic party. This party is an ally of President Musharaf.
Since the media reports on this issue are just starting to stream in, if you are based in Pakistan, let us know what the current ground situation is – whether one can view the website or not.

Youtube release the Dutch MP’s film against Quran & Islam, and for that reason it has been banned.

How about http://ww [...] for an alternative
Did I read “blasphemous” material? Is THAT the reason given??? What a load of crap. Like banning YouTube is top of the agenda for practicing Muslims – as if our government really gives a s^*t about Islam – there’s more pro-Islam content on YouTube then anywhere else on the web. If the reason really is the video by the Dutch MP, as Erikka points, then why doesn’t our government (which is SO concerned) raise the issue on a diplomatic level. Why block ALL access to YouTube. This is very convenient. They think the people are stupid and can’t see through their lies. Sorry for the rant but I’m truly disgusted at their hypocrisy and cowardice.
Bullshit man..youtubes blocked becoz of vidoes showing MQM thugs rigging the polls on feb the 18th …wat a load of crap …i dont see them blocking any other objectionable sites
