Desicritic has a very well written post on the misuse of corporate email network in India by employees who forward chain emails containing jokes on ethnic stereotypes, gender etc and I totally concur with him. I have received a bunch of such emails and I remember thinking what these guys were up to, working in such high flier companies and passing around emails using company’s account.
He goes on to add that had this been happening in the US - some guy sending around red neck jokes on corporate account - the company would have fired the employee ‘cuz of fear of getting sued left, right and center.
In fact, when I was in California, there used to a popular local newspaper called Orange County Weekly and they had a feature series called, Ask a Mexican. People used to send interesting/funny questions regarding the quirky habits of Mexicans and this fellow, himself a Mexican, used to answer.
I don’t remember the exact details but what happened was, some guy at workplace sent a particular series to couple of his friends wanting to share what he thought was extremely funny. Instead he became the subject of a lawsuit!
