Ravi, this is certainly news for this market(India). The telecom market is expanding and teleconferencing services are rather poor at this point. Other players such as Webex/Cisco and DSNL cater to the bigtime corporate accounts, and there is nothing right now to serve small businesses, NGOs etc. and therefore, this is certainly unlocking a demand.Very welcome in my view.

The US does have free conference services. Their revenue model is that the # you dial is in a rural area code and your carrier ends up paying the phone provider hosting the # a lot of money as termination fees (? I may be wrong about the terminology)

I am inclined to agree with you. Somehow I was being too optimistic.

I wonder whats new about this?

This kind of tele-conferencing has been available for many years in USA isn't it? Ofcourse it is paid one.

Secondly - We already can have teleconferencing facilities on ordinary mobile phones today. For telecom giants like Airtel or Vodafone to provide this it's a piece of cake !

Technology wise - there is nothing new. This is not web2.0 in anyway. Its just basic telephony and voip - its been around and is in use!

I don't see this venture going anywhere.
