“Can you feel the love tonight?” Last night’s finale of “The Bachelorette” was the best ever!
Ali Fedotowsky found love with Roberto Martinez, who proposed to her in Bora Bora, Tahiti. And while the show wrapped and re-played clips of Ali and Roberto’s time together on the show, the love song from “The Lion King” played (they both had guest roles in the Broadway production on one of their dates). Sigh.
As a fan of the show, I’ve watched the ups and downs of love on “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette.” And although true love rarely prevails (the only married couples so far are Ryan and Trista Sutter, and Jason and Molly Mesnick), I watch the show hoping that “this one will be different!”Â
And boy was this season different! “The Bachelorette,” Ali Fedotowsky, who left last season’s “The Bachelor” with Jake Pavelka early for her job, made a great decision on leaving him behind.  She ended up having her own shot at 25 guys as “The Bachelorette,” and became engaged by the end of the show.
Through the ups and downs of the season (Justin, who had two girlfriends at home; Frank, a final three contender who went back to his ex-girlfriend), it seemed that perhaps Ali would end up alone. Also, the promos for the show and Internet rumors had fans thinking twice about whether or not she found love. But I still watched, as I always do, hoping for a happy ending.
My choices for Ali throughout the show were Roberto and Chris Lambton (a.k.a. Chris L.), so I was happy that they were the final two guys.  I was hoping a little more for Chris L., but hey, it’s Ali’s decision after all. And the way that she broke the rules and told Chris L. ahead of time (before their last date in Tahiti and final rose ceremony) that she found love with someone else, just brought tears to my eyes. Ali really cared about Chris L.’s feelings and didn’t want to put him through the agony of the final rose ceremony. That really added to Ali’s like-ability factor.Â
And then when a rainbow appeared after Ali broke up with Chris L., it really brought on the tears as he knew it was a symbol from his late mother that everything was going to be OK (she had told him to watch for rainbows from her). Wow, it is amazing when reality TV plays out like a well-written script. Total tear-jerker!
So, Ali and Roberto found true love and are planning to get married. I am very happy for them and hope they have a great future together. And I am happy for myself and all other fans who have sat through so many other seasons of the “Bachelor/Bachelorette” and ended up disappointed. We were also rewarded with last night’s finale.
As for Chris L., he thanked Ali for the way she handled the break-up, and wished her the best with Roberto (“Go find out if he loves you” … awwww, so sweet!). He was so gracious; it just made me like him even more. He also told Ali that he was grateful to her for helping him put himself out there “because I hadn’t done that in awhile.”Â
So I think this means Chris L. is the obvious choice for the next “Bachelor.” He is a very good-looking guy, fans already love him and want to see him happy, and he said he’s ready to get out there! Â
Let’s hope the producers and executives at ABC and “The Bachelor” agree. (Please, don’t pick some arrogant guy we’ve never heard of.)
What did you think of “The Bachelorette” finale? And who do you think should be the next “Bachelor?”
