Large parts of Bihar has been submerged in flood waters from the Kosi river. 12 lakh people have been affected by the floods caused by breachÂ in the eastÂ Â Kosi afflux embankment in Nepal. Helicopters from the Indian Air Force have been employed to drop food packets adn essentials in the worst hit areas of Madhepura, Araria and Supaul for the fifth consecutive day on Tuesday.
The catastrophy is testing the Bihar government’s disaster management department. 74 health camps and 20 cattle centres are working round the clock to provide relief. Angry flood victims have attacked legislators and threatened that officials should visit only if proper relief is available. But with major rivers Ganga, Punpun, Ghaghra, Burhigandak, Bagmati, Kosi and Mahananda flowing above danger levels, immediate evacuation anf relief and rehabilitation of those affected is required.
