Lawrence Taylor Arrested And Charged With 3rd Degree Rape (Sex With A Minor)

Former New York Giants all-star Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor was arrested Thursday morning on suspicion of rape of a 16-year-old in Montebello, New York, according to TMZ.  The former defensive linebacker was awakened from sleep at his room in the Holiday Inn Suffern by the Ramapo Police and taken into custody without incident, authorities noted.  The 16-year-old alleged that Lawrence Taylor paid her $300 to have sex, an allegation that Lawrence Taylor denies.

It all started, according to the New York Times, when the 16-year-old, a runaway (since March) from the Bronx, New York, texted her uncle, notifying him of her destination and that she was in the company of her pimp.  After police arrived, they found the young woman with a black eye and arrested 36-year-old Rasheed Davis, her alleged pimp.  He was later charged with unlawful imprisonment, assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

The girl told N.Y.P.D. that she had just returned from being pimped out to Lawrence Taylor at his hotel room.  The N.Y.P.D. then contacted the Ramapo Police and asked them to arrest Taylor.

At a later press conference, Ramapo town supervisor Christopher P. St. Lawrence stated: “We have a victim who is 16 years old who has alleged that they had sex.  She is not allowed under New York laws to have consensual sex. She is traumatized. She’s a very young girl.” Police also removed evidence from Lawrence Taylor’s room.  TMZ reported that one of those items was a condom.  St. Lawrence acknowledged that a bottle of alcohol was removed as well but maintained that there were no drugs found in the room.

Lawrence Taylor has had both a history of drug-related problems with law enforcement, including several arrests for drug possession.

Taylor maintains that he is innocent of all charges.  Regardless, at his arraignment at noon on Thursday, Taylor was charged with third-degree solicitation of prostitution and third-degree rape (sex with a minor).  His bail was set at $75,000, which he posted later that evening and was summarily released.

If found guilty, Lawrence Taylor could face up to a year for the prostitution charge, which is a misdemeanor.  The rape charge, however, is a felony and carries as much as a four-year sentence.
