New information has surfaced in the 14-month-old case of missing Haleigh Cummings, the 5-year-old Florida girl that went missing in the middle of the night last year as her babysitter and little brother supposedly slept just feet away. Divers are searching the St. Johns River south of Satsuma, the town where the mystery began. According to CNN, members of the family were called in to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office to be updated on the case. What was discussed has not been made public.
Scant information has been given about the details of the current phase of the investigation. Authorities have not divulged what specific areas of the river they were searching Tuesday to prevent “unnecessary congestion from onlookers,” but did announce that they had found nothing after a day’s search. Divers would be sent back into the river Wednesday.Â
A cryptically worded statement was issued from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office: “Although various resources are being utilized to conduct this search, it is just one of many operations conducted during this investigation. Due to the sensitivity of this investigation, the name of the person providing the tip and the physical evidence alleged to be in this area will not be released.”
What little has been released has many speculating that too many details point to information regarding missing Haleigh Cummings.
Misty Croslin, the live-in girlfriend /babysitter that was the last person to see Haleigh Cummings, was taken from her cell at St. Johns County jail, where she is being held on charges related to allegedly selling drugs to an undercover officer, and brought in for an interview, according to Putnam County Jeff Hardy, a development that has only added to the mystery.Â
Putnam County authorities  have made no secret about suspecting that Misty Croslin knows far more than she has told investigators about the missing 5-year-old child. She has been interviewed many times. Her stories have been inconsistent with each telling. Still, she maintains her innocense and once said that she believed the “other side of the family” knew where Haleigh Cummings was.Â
Ronald Cummings, Haleigh’s father, arrived home from work at around 3:25 a.m. on February 10 to find that his daughter was missing from his Satsuma mobile home. Misty Croslin told him that his daughter was missing and they called 911 at 3:27 a.m.  Misty Croslin claims that she tucked Haleigh into bed at 8 p.m. the night before and she (Misty) went to bed at 10 p.m. When she woke at 3 a.m. and went to the bathroom, Haleigh Cummings was mssing and the back door, which was always locked, was propped open with a cinder block.Â
Misty Croslin and Ronald Cummings have since married and divorced.
